The Search Bar in Firefox is a very useful utility. What is even more interesting is that new search engines can be added using a standard XML definition to the searchplugins folder of your Firefox profile. There is a huge community with search plugins for anything you can think of. I even found one for CricInfo StatsGuru. They also have a page to allow simple generation of the XML file based on a set of parameters. So I created a simple one for CricInfo Headlines.
Now what's better is that Malte Kraus has a Firefox extension that allows you to create a searchplugin from almost any text box you find on any webpage. Really powerful and useful extension. It even tries to pick up an icon for the search plugin from the webpage on which the search textbox was found - using a default icon is none found.
Right click on any textbox that supports search and select the
option. A new search plugin will be created in your profile. It's that easy.
